Our Mission

Balloons Over Rockbridge LLC is a 501(c)3 non-profit community group created to bring the balloons back to Rockbridge County for the enjoyment of the community and also to help raise funds and awareness for local charities and organizations through our annual July Hot Air Balloon Festival.  The event will be a major fundraiser for one or two selected local charities each year.


Our Balloons Over Rockbridge Festival is held at the Oak Hill Cross Country Course at the Virginia Horse Center across the road from the main coliseum.

Since 1982, Project Horizon has served victims of dating, domestic, and sexual violence. What began as the vision of a small group of women around a kitchen table has grown into a comprehensive, accredited program serving the people of the Rockbridge community. From working directly with survivors and the victims to providing education and violence prevention programs, Project Horizon is a recognized leader in efforts locally and statewide to address the pervasive problem of domestic and sexual violence.


Project Horizon offers services to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, place of origin, gender, gender identity/expression, age, faith, sexual orientation, or disability. All of their services are free and confidential, and strive to help any and all who have experienced or wish to learn more about domestic and sexual violence.


Services provided:

  • 24 Hour Crisis Hotline 540-463-2594 (TTY  and translation service available)
  • Education and Community Outreach
  • Legal Advocacy to provide legal information to victims and survivors
  • Counseling
  • Disabilities Services Program for victims and survivors with special needs
  • Lisa’s House, emergency shelter providing support, advocacy, & counseling.
  • Fresh Start Fund provides financial support for independent, violence-free living

Tiny Seed

“The tiniest of seeds can uproot the greatest of needs"

Tiny Seed is a Christian-based charitable, grass-roots movement devoted to meeting the essential needs of children, individuals and families in Rockbridge County and surrounding areas.  Formally founded in 2015, Tiny Seed’s goal is to increase awareness and action by addressing the critical physical and spiritual needs of the community it serves.  Through these efforts, Tiny Seed aims to inspire, strengthen, and uplift these communities on a long-term basis, one tiny seed at a time. 


Tiny Seed strives to:

     *Engage in community     outreach

     *Serve as a liaison to bring awareness to the critical needs of the community such as clothing, furniture, personal hygiene items, and food.

     *Facilitate the exchange process between: 

  • Individuals/families in need and community members who can meet those needs;
  • Individuals/families in need and community organizations who can provide those needs;
  • Various community organizations
  • Work to identify long-term solutions that will more efficiently bring awareness to and bridge the gap between those in need and those able to provide.
  • In the future, operate a fully-staffed office and warehouse to be able to better serve the essentials needs of our community members. 

Tiny Seed serves all people regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, income, or religious beliefs. All requests and donations are anonymous. We believe that the anonymity we retain secures our ability to respond without disruption or disclosure and builds trusting relationships between referral sources and families.

The 2018 festival beneficiary was Hoofbeats Therapeutic Riding Center located at the Virginia Horse Center. Check out their great program for individuals of all ages with all types of challenges! 


The 2017 Balloons Over Rockbridge Festival was held July 3-5, 2017 and funds raised benefited the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Rockbridge.
